Begin with the current plan
Record the feeding plan already agreed for your cat, including the food, daily amount and any supervised meals. Do not copy another owner’s portion setting: different diets and cats have different needs. The purpose of programming a feeder is to carry out an appropriate plan consistently. Ask your veterinarian when you need help deciding the plan itself.
Translate settings into delivered food
A device may call one motor rotation a portion without claiming it equals a fixed weight for every food. Run several supervised deliveries into a clean bowl and weigh the total with a suitable kitchen scale. Record the food name and setting together. Repeat after changing kibble, because shape and density can alter the amount delivered even when the number on the screen stays unchanged.
Review the full day
Add all scheduled deliveries, hand-fed meals and treats when reviewing the daily routine. Check the device clock, time zone and daylight-saving behavior after setup or a router change. Several small slots should not accidentally add extra food to an unchanged daily plan. Leave enough time to notice a missed delivery before it creates a long gap in the cat’s usual routine.
Observe what happens after delivery
A successful command is evidence of a command, not proof that the intended cat ate the meal. Look for leftovers, food taken by another animal and changes in appetite. Keep a simple meal record while establishing the routine. Contact your veterinarian about concerning eating changes; do not compensate by repeatedly increasing portions or assuming an app chart can assess the cat’s health.
Research scope
This is editorial research from published sources, not a hands-on test. Manufacturer claims and general guidance do not guarantee results for every cat. Check the current manual for your exact model and region.
